New D6 section near Lubenec opens mid-October — a shorter route to the German border

The Road and Motorway Directorate has announced that the first stage of the D6 motorway between Petrohrad and Lubenec will open in mid-October 2026 — nearly a year behind the original December 2025 schedule. Contractors point to unexpected subsoil conditions that differed from the design assumptions. The new section includes a 2.2km bypass around the village of Ležky, and within five to seven weeks of opening, the existing temporary exit onto road I/6 near Lubenec will be removed.

For carriers heading toward Karlovy Vary, Cheb and on into Germany, this is a meaningful improvement — it takes pressure off parallel lower-class roads and should make the route smoother. The second stage, toward Prague, is facing similar geological issues, with completion now expected in 2028 rather than 2027 — so a fully connected D6 is still a way off.
