Starting in January 2027, the Czech Ministry of Transport is overhauling the test questions for truck and bus licences (categories C and D). The vehicle operation and maintenance exam will shrink from 45 to 40 questions, dropping outdated material like changing light bulbs or the inner workings of 1990s-era mechanical parts, including dry and wet air filters. In their place come eight new questions covering adaptive and predictive cruise control, blind-spot detection, electronic stability control (ESC) and suspension, plus topics on alternative powertrains and AdBlue fluid.
The change affects roughly 15,000 licence applicants a year, and driving schools are already experimenting with virtual-reality training that lets students practise scenarios without needing physical access to a vehicle. It's good news for carriers longer-term — new drivers will start out already familiar with the driver-assist systems standard in modern tractor units, which should translate into safer operations on the road.
